'See Mark Lovett's answer below' My experience was promoting mountain-bike and triathlon and off-road Duathlons. To me, the key to creating any business is to work, or play at it gaining the inside know-how of the nuts and bolts! Promoting any significant event is a serious undertaking, and could take a year or more to put together. I would get involved in some TEDx events before making the big step. Lot's of luck.
