Weebew  How to solve a $5.00 Economic problem? Each day here in Naga City; I struggle to wonder how Internet games are killing The children's ability to read or even care about there education. How can we expect children to care if the parents don't? Sadly here the average man earns $5 a day; that's right the cost of a super duper Starbucks coffee in America.   When you travel to Naga, with your fiat dollars there value here is amazing. With example $800  you exchange for about 42,619 Filipino pesos.  Just imagine you want to tile two rooms, and paint the concrete walls and ceilings and casement windows,, tile a bathroom with all fixtures the approximate cost around  40,000 peso, parts, and labor. Wow, try that in the USA? That sure beats the $80 -$100 an hour you pay in the US for one man. Let's define that, the Plummer comes out and works 8 hrs that could be $ 640, without parts or taxes. So here the painter, tile man, and laborer go home every ni

Sharing life at Wenbill Boarding House and the Future

WHATsUP Weebew Club We at the Wenbill Boarding House are working every day to create this stepping stone in your life as a better experience. Most of the boarders are students, some have made their way into the workforce, thus becoming an adult by assuming the responsibilities of an adult; like paying their own expenses. As we strive for a better future, here at Wenbill we must share with others. Some like myself almost never lived without airconditioning or hot running water or a washing machine. Cold bucket showers are a true experience for an American. We each have a responsibility to keep the water buckets near full ( please do not remove the bucket or water ladel from the bathroom; they are only for washing and flushing!  Helping to conserve water, showering and doing laundry helps to keep the costs down; as seeing lights and fans, water, etc. are off after using. If these items become m

What makes a PowerPoint slide show look more professional?

Image
John Question from Quora Slide presentations may be powerful or terrible? You can see excellent presentations on TED Talks. Professional delivery requires lots of practice. Never turn your back on the audience. When Presidents give speeches, they watch a teleprompter. In public speaking, you have three points of direction to the audience; right, center, and left. The President has three teleprompters, you don’t see, so when he faces a direction, he is always viewing the screen. Reading a speech from like a lectern is practiced talent. You can double space your type in just main points and fill in the rest? In PowerPoint make your print larger, with doubles spacing; also this is easier for the audience to read. With a device ( laptop) in front of you. Never turn to look at the screen, and lots of reading practice, and keep it simple, just three main points. Coming soon: Weebeworld Events

What are the best concept speech topics?

Image
John Definition of concept . 1: something conceived in the mind: thought, notion. 2: an abstract or generic idea generalized from particular instances. Personally, I like ‘I Have a Dream’ as an idea conceived in Martin Luther King's mind? Many think that was the speech title, but it was not; he added that line during his speech. What are the best concept speech topics? When your heart and soul go into the speech, you will have arrived at a great topic and possible speech? 2007 Toastmaster World Champion, Vikas Jhingran, preached short titles. Two of his three winning titles ‘Perfect” and ‘The Sami’ were about his life. Rory Vaden, number two in 2007’s Title was ‘Slam’ a story about his summer door to door book sales while in college. Dananjaya Hettiarachchi World Champion of Public Speaking 2014, his title  'I see something.' He uses than ' Says over and over' “ I see something in you, but I don’t know what it is?” All of these speeches, ha

A LESSON IN PUBLIC SPEAKING

1. Read Early, Read Often A large part of Abraham Lincoln’s speaking ability stemmed from his lifelong love of reading. Despite his father not believing in the value of education, Lincoln read voraciously as a child. Lincoln was never far from a book for the rest of his life, even though his formal schooling amounted to less than twelve months. Lincoln’s love of reading would come in quite handy later in his life. During the early days Civil War, Lincoln - who had almost no military experience - turned to books to give himself a “crash course” in military strategy. This “crash course” no doubt helped him successfully lead the nation through its most precarious era. 2. Craft Your Words Carefully Abraham Lincoln’s speeches have contributed some of the most memorable lines in American history, from “a house divided against itself cannot stand,” to “with malice towards none and charity for all.” When writing your own speeches, it can be beneficial to pause and ask your

What is the best way to write a speech?

Question on Quora Interesting question; speeches are about a story, a topic, a view or maybe something your boss said you must present? Before I joined Toastmasters I was a race event promoter for 12 years, my idea of a speech was instructing the athletes about the race rules. When I joined Toastmasters, I then realized how bad a speaker I was! Speaking to audiences is one thing, but putting together cogent sentences is what matters. A speech should have 4 parts: The title: keep it short ( I Have a Dream) famous words in a Martin Luther King (MLK) speech. Actually not the title. The opening: if you know your audience; it could be a joke or a quote to get the attention of the audience. Always mention who the quote is by. The body: too much info will bore your audience; basically just 3 main points. The close: Always try to create a close that incorporates your opening idea, or title. As I learned Toastmasters is the best place to start about how to write and give

The Adventures of Jack Chapter 4

(4)                                               Life with a purpose Jack’s, mind kept wandering back to Jack & Jim just adrift on the river, to The Three Musketeers in the forest of France and the Golden Book. He was just ten, and his life was one big adventure. Was it the trips to the library with his father, Jake? Was it those compelling books, that filled Jack’s life with adventure? Possibly one of the most powerful was the story of Liz. Jack never before cried when reading, but Liz’s story brought to life everything Dale Carnegie’s Golden Book was teaching.  This amazing story of living at the bottom, and building a life from nothing, will leave you cheering and be crying with happiness! When Jack read the story of Liz Murray’s life, he was reminded of the words of Dale Carnegie: “Instead of worrying about what people say about you, why not spend time trying to accomplish something they will admire.” At the cemetery that morning Liz lay-ed on her mother's c

Update. David versus Goliath

Image
Also, see the original David versus Goliath blog at the bottom of this story. Yesterday I went to PLDT in Naga City ( I am not sure what PLDT stands for ) oh yes, we are pathetic. Just before 9am, I enter, it's a beautiful building, big TV, computers, all kinds of neat stuff;  except you can't pay your Internet bill???? At cashier's window, I give my account information, with a smile while counting piles of cash, the young man says, you can't pay that here! What, but no answer to as why?  Do I have to go to SM Mall, no go to E mall? Yes, folks, I am walking, because now I have waited over three months for my bicycles to be delivered?  Another pathetic Tale of liars and con games. Coming soon. Now at Emall not far away, I am 1 hour early.  Now I walk for the exercise, not because I am too cheap to pay the tricycle. Then you find out you can't pay at Emall?  More PLDT BS.  Now my back is sore, my brain hurts, I head home, may

WHATsUP Weebew Kids Club Sat. & Sun. 3pm Yes it is July 4th in Naga City; yes the roosters are alive and never quiet, even at 4:30am. Today is my sort of Independence Day?  My wife's birthday;  yes the day I hope to reprieve myself from all my strange American quirks. The day I shine with flowers and gifts of love, to show my Rowena on her birthday, I am really not as strange as they may think? Every morning, every afternoon they sit and chat in our store, about me, about what?  English is never spoken, so my extensive Tagalog vocabulary 'See' is lost! Friends, if they laugh or complain about me, I can still smile, because ' me no comprendo'! Ok, on my morning walk I pass hundreds of small shops, so this day before her birthday, I still need something besides roses. Shopping on the streets of Naga is like going to the worlds biggest flea market

Why is School Important?

Image
So I hope you read my blogs about Naga City? Some may remember; The words "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" - while by no means an official creed or motto of the United States Postal Service - have long been associated with the American postman. One day I asked my sweetheart why these kids are not in school? Oh, it's raining? What?  Gee, I thought going to school was important? Wow, each minute I have here in the Philippines is precious, how vital is Weebew Club? I started with every kid I saw "What's Up" What's Up" Weebew  Club Wow, that same day they came to find out about this Weebew Club? Over the years I developed my teaching style "The class clown style." Each week during football season at Pasadena Fundamental 5th grade, I opened the class with a moment of silence for the Florida Gators? That season the Gators were losing

The Real Adventures of Jack- Chapter 3

Image
Jack  Then eventually I decided to start my business.  Everyone has a tale, mine is the story of Bill Bonanno. Every week as I was mowing his lawn in East Meadow, LI.  Sometimes a black limo would stop, two big guys would escort Bill Bannano to the house.  I was just a young yipper snapper and new very little about the local news, I was busy on a career path! Then I did see the story Joe Bannano, now Joe was just regular guy, wanted by the FBI and IRS, he was the head of the biggest crime syndicate in New York State, he had disappeared to Canada they claimed? Joseph Charles Bonanno Sr. was an Italian-born American mafioso who became the boss of the Bonanno crime family Everybody has a story about being in the right place at the right time. That day while mowing the FBI showed up, I did what everyone would have done I waved hello!  Well after they asked me for my birth certificate, proof of a  business license  we waved goodbye, as poor bill was hauled
